ROSDEC Event – Ashley Hutchings

ROSDEC would like to invite you to another Live and Local Performance  -  Ashley Hutching’s Rainbow Chasers at Rolleston Club on Sunday 21st March 07.30 pm

Ashley Hutchings is to British folk rock what John Mayall is to British blues. Beginning in the 1960s, Ashley co-founded legendary folk rock groups Fairport Convention Steeleye Span and The Albion Band. He is not only a musician and composer, but also a poet and musical director at the National Theatre. Ashley is also the person who discovered the young Nick Drake and alerted producer Joe Boyd to the legendary singer songwriter’s fledgling talents.

Throughout his career, Ashley has sought to inspire and nurture new talent. A result of this is the Rainbow Chasers, a collaboration with young, talented musicians that takes folk music to new places. Ashley’s joined by Ruth Angell on vocals, fiddle and guitar, Jo Hamilton on viola and guitar (both girls are recent graduates of the Birmingham Conservatoire) and talented young guitarist and singer songwriter Joe Topping.

This is music that mixes in a bit of Ashley’s back catalogue and plenty of the groups self-penned songs and instruments. Musical influences range from the Eastern European ‘gypsy’ style song First Europeans, Circus Girl was inspired by a TV documentary about teenage cosmetic surgery and Nailing the Shrimp and Hammer your Toes are two fantastically quirky songs written after Ruth’s bicycle was stolen. And there’s a fantastic song about fighting chicken’s that was inspired by a scary encounter with a red neck whilst walking across the USA!

It’s an intimate evening of very high quality music which really sets an atmosphere and will suit an attentive crowd who will enjoy having this wonderfully rich sound wash over them. There are some up-tempo bits but these are of the foot tapping rather than the foot stomping kind! And their rapport with the audience is excellent as they love to talk and tell stories about their music.

A Live & Local Event (supported by Staffordshire County Council and East Staffordshire Borough Council)

Tickets are available at Starbucks Newsagents or Rosdec committee members.

Ten Days That Shook the Kitchen

Do you enjoy theatre?

Do you enjoy a fun night out?

If the answer is “yes” then let Rolleston Pre School entertain you with their next Event (courtesy of Live and Local):

TEN DAYS THAT SHOOK THE KITCHEN - A Ginny Davis Production

TEN DAYS That Shook the Kitchen! Describes ten days in the life of Ruth Richan ordinary mum of three who in response to a magazine article starts to write a diary. You’ll recognise the familiar packed schedule of mums everywhere – swimming lessons, supermarket, shopping, PTA meetings, visits by the gruesome in-laws, whingeing kids, hard-to-live-up-to best friend. It’s all given a hilarious twist when she prangs the car into delectable Milly’s Dad’s BMW. Their eyes meet…he asks her out….Will she?! Think Bridget Jones’s Diary meets My Family!
Ginny cleverly portrays every single character (and there are quite a few). Mums all over the country will recognise themselves and hopefully the stroppy teenagers out there will realise how hectic their Mum’s life really is especially when it comes to saving their embarrassment when her husband decides to impersonate Elvis!

This One-woman show comes highly recommended to us after a sell-out tour at the Edinburgh festival Fringe last year.

This show aims to be a great night out – so escape from you busy schedule, especially all those mums, and give yourselves a treat!

Venue – John of Rolleston School, Alderbrook Site, Rolleston on Dove
Date – Friday 2nd October
Time 7.30 PM
Ticket costs – Adults £7.50 OAP’s £5.00 Child 8 yrs to 15 yrs £5.00 – Available from Pre-School or Sharon Harrison 01283 810321

Sponsored Bounce

Well done to all the children who completed the sponsored bounce obstacle course this year. We finally had some sunshine after many days of rain and were able to hold the event later than planned. Lots of jumping, skipping, balancing and racing was required and every child performed brilliantly (as did all of the supportive parents and grandparents cheering them on!)

Thank you to everyone who raised sponsorship money. The event raised over £700 for Pre-School funds – a really outstanding achievement.

If you have not yet handed in your sponsorship money, please can you drop it into Pre-School asap.

Thanks and well done again!

The annual Rolleston Carnival is to be held on Sunday 10th May. Please look out for our children on the circus float as they parade through the village. They are hard at work currently creating masks and costumes for the event.

At the Rolleston Scout Hut we will also be hosting a bouncy castle, so all our little circus animals and clowns can have a good jump after the parade! We hope to see you there.

We are going to be decorating the float on the morning of the Carnival. Should you be able to spare a couple of hours to help with this, we would be most grateful. Please contact the Pre-School for details.
